Festival Details

The Chilam Joshi festival is one of Pakistan’s premier cultural events. Celebrated by the Kalasha tribe, this vibrant spring festival is just one of several significant cultural celebrations they hold throughout the year. The other major festivals are Choimus in winter and Uchal in summer. Held in the stunning setting of the Hindukush mountains, Chilam Joshi is a captivating cultural experience that offers a glimpse into the unique traditions of the Kalasha people.
In November 2018, UNESCO recognized the Kalash culture as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage,” highlighting its global cultural significance. This prestigious designation was officially announced at the 13th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee, which took place in Mauritius. The acknowledgment by UNESCO underscores the rich cultural tapestry and historical importance of the Kalasha festivals, preserving their heritage for future generations.
