Expedition Details

Passu Sar or Passu Peak 7284m is a mountain peak in the Batura Muztagh, a sub-range of the Karakoram Mountain range, located in the majestic Hunza Valley Gilgit Baltistan in the Northern Areas of Pakistan.

Passu Peak stands on the farthest corner of the Batura glacier with the Khunjerab Pass Chinese border at a distance of one hundred kilometers away and Gilgit to the south some 150 kilometers. The Passu Peak can be spotted from the Karakorum Highway from Passu village in the Upper Hunza Valley in Gilgit Baltistan North Pakistan.

The Passu village is bordering with high mountains, peaks and glaciers in the surrounding and the name Passu Peak is referred to the village name Passu and you can easily see the Passu Peak from the village and have a easy access to the base camp of the Passu Peak.

The first ascension was carried out by Pakistani and Japanese mountaineers in 1978 mean while one of the Japanese members Toshiyou Takashi died during the ascent. A 54 kilometers long journey along the vast glacier leads the climbers to the abrupt ascend of the Passu Peak. In Batura Muztagh there are several peaks in between the Passu Peak on the left side of Passu Peak there is Shisper Peak, Gulmit Tower, Ultar Sar and on the right side is the Batura Peaks and Kampir Dior.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Islamabad, Pakistan

Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our team. Transfer to a centrally located hotel for rest and overnight stay in Islamabad.

Day 2Islamabad to Chilas

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the Karakoram Highway towards Chilas. Visit Shatial rock carvings en route. Upon arrival in Chilas, check into your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3Chilas to Gulmit, Upper Hunza Valley

Drive from Chilas to Gulmit in the picturesque Upper Hunza Valley. Along the way, visit the unique point where the world’s three highest mountain ranges converge. Enjoy lunch at Rakaposhi viewpoint, famous for its panoramic vistas, before continuing to Gulmit. Check into your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 4Gulmit – Borith Lake – Passu Ghar

After breakfast, drive to Upper Borith Lake and start trekking to Passu Ghar. Enjoy the tranquility of nature with overnight camping at Passu Ghar.

Day 5 Passu Ghar to Luzdhar

Continue your trek, crossing the spectacular Passu White Glacier towards the scenic Luzdhar meadow (3400m). The trek duration is approximately 3-4 hours—overnight camping at Luzdhar.

Day 6Luzdhar to Patundas Meadows

A challenging but rewarding trek, ascending 800 meters to Patundas Meadows (4575m). Enjoy magnificent views of numerous peaks, including Passu group, Batura group, Shispar, Dastagil Sar, Mohmil Sar, and Rakaposhi. Overnight camping at Patundas Meadows.

Day 7Patundas Meadows to Passu Peak Base Camp

Trek from Patundas Meadows to Passu Peak Base Camp. Settle into camp and prepare for climbing. Overnight camping at base camp.

Day 8 - 16Passu Peak Climbing Days

Spend these days dedicated to climbing Passu Peak. Enjoy incredible panoramic views and a thrilling mountaineering experience. Overnight camping throughout.

Day 17Passu Peak Base Camp to Luzdhar

After a successful summit, trek back from Passu Peak Base Camp to Luzdhar. Overnight camping at Luzdhar.

Day 18Luzdhar to Borith Lake

Trek back to Borith Lake, once again crossing the stunning Passu White Glacier. Overnight camping by Borith Lake.

Day 19Borith Lake to Gulmit, Upper Hunza Valley

Drive back to Gulmit after breakfast. Check into your hotel for relaxation and overnight stay in Gulmit.

Day 20Gulmit to Gilgit

Travel from Gulmit to Gilgit, stopping for photographic opportunities. Explore Gilgit Bazaar, observe local traditions, and visit the cooperative store showcasing Chinese goods. Cross Asia’s longest suspension bridge for an exhilarating experience. Overnight stay at a hotel in Gilgit.

Day 21Gilgit to Besham

Depart Gilgit early, stopping at viewpoints offering stunning vistas of Nanga Parbat and the convergence point of three major mountain ranges. Continue to Besham, stopping for meals and breaks along the way. Overnight stay in Besham.

Day 22Besham to Islamabad & Departure

Drive from Besham to Islamabad, visiting the historical Taxila Museum en route. Upon arrival, tour famous landmarks including Faisal Mosque, Lok Virsa Museum, Saidpur Village, Daman-e-Koh, and Raja Bazaar. Enjoy a farewell dinner, after which you’ll be transferred to Islamabad International Airport for your departure flight, concluding your memorable adventure.
